MySpace Down
I know that MySpace is usually HOG SLOW, but this is just plain funny. Apparently they lost power in their data center. I imagine that the only thing powering their data center is Lance Armstrong riding a bike in the basement, powering a generator (Sportscenter anyone?).
Here’s a screenshot I captured here.
I guess part of Rupert’s $580 million didn’t go towards a backup. Then again, that would seem fair and balanced. Come on Tom, what kind of friend are you? Redundancy man, redundancy!

SoCal has been having mad rolling blackouts lately.

Yeah my company is hosted in the same datacenter as myspace. and the ac units have been off since about 5:30pm. Myspace runs AMD servers, guess what. they overheated.

I tried to log in but it said my account had been deleted or closed by the user. I thought meh probably the Brian Peppers picture I have as a profile picture > http://www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us/Secured/p23.aspx?oid=13753 . Anyway it seemed fine after about half an hour.

It may be that, because of the heat the hydro power that you buy from British Columbia is more expensive than budgeted for. Low water levels mean more expensive power, and if your county has a fixed budget for that, to buy more is to go on the open market and power is overpriced right now.
I live in BC, and California actually buys most of the power produced here. I can tell you that we haven’t had any blackouts, so I would honestly suspect this is a market-related circumstance. Being socialists up here, our power payment is structured differently.

I don’t know how accurate it is, but I heard through the grape vine that they are redoing their system from scratch. With a much more effecient programming language.

If we could get that device, the bike, that Lance uses to keep the power generators going and instead get somebody like Richard Simmons endorsing it. Then these women that sit at home all day shopping on the Home Shopping Channel, will ne longer be a problem. In order for them to keep on watching TV or Surfing the Net they will need to keep on pedaling that bike.
